Town Crier
04:45
|
|||
take me down
to where I've
put myself.
keep me now
where I'll crawl
my way down,
where I won't
be found.
for they say
it's your crime, son.
I was there
the night that
the veil came down.
now I lick
my teeth
like I gave
up something
sweet, like
my boots
feel like they're
still on my feet.
I feel light
as I stand
with the world
in my hands.
But now they point
and stare,
(Oh, I'm not the one)
You've tried
to keep here
on my own.
puff out your chest,
never shed a tear man.
you've got a mouthful of words,
and no breath to push them out.

Laying Brick
04:39

Headlights blinding,
I've been followed home.
I've been watched
in my sleep,
I've not once been alone.
and I keep repeating,
I am mine,
my own.
but I've been subject to thieves.
I've been held at the door.
and I wait,
I know they're
never gonna
come around my way.
as I wait for my turn
I've come to learn
there's no such thing.
I'm hopping out of line
We keep our eyes to the pavement,
feet to the weathered trail.
(we aren't awake)
Well don't you stop here,
not this far.
Follow suit and fear the side
you've yet to know.
you gon meet the preacher's
son who don't get along.
you gon learn the winter's long
without a firing stove.
you gon see that your life, boy,
it's the one you want.
As I move in closer
keeping true to my cause
I've been wrenching my neck
just to catch a glimpse.
But I know you're
never gonna
come around my way..
As I wait for my turn
I've come to learn,
there's no such thing.

Catharsis
05:08
|
|||
Raised up amongst
the dirt and the leaves,
envy has hung me by my feet,
where only time can prick
my temple - and drain me
of my greed.
Hold tight to your mind
or tug on the line
if you decide you want out.
That's not to say
that anyone's awake
at the reigns.
We'll toe a final waltz,
slow to remember.
How can we keep this up, my god!
What have I become?
For all that I've
gone and let die
there's something
that I've kept alive.
And that's this fruit
and I'm gonna keep it-
I'll keep it til it's ripe.
We used to look up past them falls,
but when you get back home,
we gonna wade the river bend.
Pull the ropes and push the post,
we'll drift into the scene.
We'll toe a final waltz,
slow to remember.
How can we keep this up, my god!
What have I become?
For all that I've kept alive
there's something that I've let die.
Love, I shouldn't have.
And now, I keep it.

Rough Tide
04:51
|
|||
Awake on the wrong side,
I keep my head up,
it's when I'm likely to lose you.
Awake in a rough tide,
beneath a raging moon.
And when on the short side,
I never mean bad,
it's just I'm likely to lose my cool.
I'm working on avoiding
that part of me all together, man
I swear I am.
It's not often
that I feel the earth
shift beneath my feet
and push me toward the street
where wet clay awaits me
and my dry hands
in an attempt to understand
break off and turn to
sand piles in the sun
where it burns to step on.
so I sit on trains
for most of the day
and get home later.
I sit on trains
for most of the day
and get home later,
and i catch myself
when i talk out loud-
(could you keep it down?)
now there's all these people around.
So I sweep up the words
that I spilled on the floor,
and I throw on my coat
and I walk toward the door
but I tend to turn around
at the slightest of sounds,
I could flee the scene,
but I'll sniff the ground.
Awake on the wrong side,
I keep my head up,
it's when I'm likely to lose you.
Awake in a rough tide,
beneath a raging moon.
And when on the short side,
I never mean bad,
it's just I'm likely to lose my cool.
I'm working on avoiding
that part of me all together, man
I swear I am.
when I wake up
you know I keep my head up.
I guess time makes you tired
gets you falling asleep at the wheel.
Stretch lies to decide if your
next move calls for me.
